Frequently Asked Questions
Is my data safe? Does anything get uploaded?
Completely safe. This tool runs 100% in your browser using JavaScript. Your file is never sent to any server — it's processed locally and discarded when you close the tab.
Why not just use File → Download → Excel directly in Google Sheets?
Google Sheets does offer a direct .xlsx download, and for many cases that works great. This tool is useful when: (1) the direct export produces formatting issues, (2) you want a clean .xlsx from pure data without Sheets formatting artifacts, (3) you're batch-converting multiple CSVs, or (4) you've already exported a CSV and need to convert it to Excel without re-opening the Google Sheet.
What file types can I upload?
CSV (.csv), TSV (.tsv), and plain text (.txt) files with comma or tab delimiters. The converter auto-detects the separator.
Will formulas and formatting carry over?
CSV files contain only raw values — formulas, colors, conditional formatting, and charts are not included. If you need those, use the direct .xlsx export from Google Sheets instead (File → Download → Microsoft Excel).
Can I also convert Excel files to Google Sheets?
Yes! Our Excel to Google Sheets converter does exactly that. We also have tools for Word to Google Docs and PowerPoint to Google Slides.
Is there a file size limit?
No hard limit. Processing happens in your browser, so it depends on your device's memory. CSVs up to ~50MB typically convert smoothly.
